Omar, polno ime Omar ibn al-Hattab (arabsko عمر بن الخطاب), islamski kalif, * 592, Meka, † 3. november 644, Medina.


Omar je bil ashabi - prijatelj in eden sodelavcev islamskega preroka Mohameda. Po Mohamedovi smrti je bil 10 let (drugi) muslimanski vladar. V muslimansko vero se je spreobrnil šesto leto po Mohamedovem prvem razodetju, nato je preroka spremljal 18 let, do njegove smrti. 23. avgusta 634 je nasledil kalifa Abu Bakra kot drugi kalif in odigral vidno vlogo v nastajanju Islama.


Včasih njegovo ime zapisujejo kot Omar I. za razlikovanje od kasnejšega umajadskega kalifa Omarja II.
